Once upon a time there was a man who ran a shop. It was a busy shop and his days were full and frantic doing all those unseen things that small businesses need to do on a daily basis to keep afloat. He kept meaning to start marketing his business more effectively, but there was never any time. And he wasn't really sure how to go about it as words weren't really his thing. The shopkeeper was already working long days and was reluctant to let the business completely intrude on his family, friends and interests - for he did not want a business and no life. Why should he feel guilty for spending the weekend with his children or playing tennis on a summer's evening?

One day a scribe came into his shop. They began a conversation. The shopkeeper was wise enough to realise that he could call on the services of the scribe as and when he needed to promote the shop in the press, to write features, and to design adverts, brochures and pamphlets on demand. The scribe had developed quality skills and amassed experience and contacts that the shopkeeper could benefit from. The scribe saw the shop in ways the shopkeeper had never seen it before. The scribe listened to the shopkeeper and his needs before proposing work to maintain existing customers and attract new markets. Conversation flowed and a proposal was agreed at a fair price.

The scribe and the shopkeeper became firm friends as they formed a working relationship and the shopkeeper's dream of a thriving business. (They may even have shared an occasional drink to celebrate various business successes, but that's another story...) The end.
